about

The following summarises the data migration analysis service Justin Phebey can provide prospective clients (subject to contract) and is based on previous data migration project experience for clients including Cadbury and NHS. This includes working as part of a client team ranging from business as usual employees, data owners and a client project team to realise these successful enterprise resource planning (ERP) data migrations to date.

  • Project phase recognition

Whether work has already been undertaken to establish data requirements of the new system and whether these fully support the existing or desired business processes / reporting requirements.

  • Establishment of a target system mapping document, which may still be subject to change depending on whether the new system is undergoing development to match the client's requirements.
  • Analysis undertaken to identify and agree business required legacy system data.

A variety of methods could be used ranging from viewing legacy user interface, ODBC connectivity, legacy table browser, legacy data dictionary or extract files.

  • Legacy data mapping completed to identify all required legacy data sources.

Initially this identifies the source for each field even if that data requires further work (establishing an extract).

In some cases legacy data may come from more than one source and later require join logic to achieve the desired outcome.

Identifying existing legacy reporting to support extract completeness analysis.

  • Analysis of data mapping to identify gaps, cleansing issues and transformation requirements.
